Foodstuff is a blog about food for people who like food. Look for recipes, articles and analysis, and restaurant reviews for the Louisville, Kentucky area. (more if my travels happen to take me there) Bear in mind my recipes are usually inexact and narrative--please let me know if you want something a big more precise and concise.
Foodstuff Philosophy :
*Shop locally, cook globally:I believe in buying as much locally as possible, particularly meat, dairy, and produce. I also love to explore the world through cuisine. So while my ingredients may come from a farm just across the county, my recipes may come from the four corners of the globe. I do have a particular fondness for Southern/rural comfort food, as it's a part of my heritage, but as my mama said, "We don't work on the farm anymore, you can't eat like that every day." I do like to cook as "authentically" and "from scratch" as possible with in the confines of my budget and lifestyle.
*Chemicals are not food.. Oh don't get me wrong, some chemicals are downright tasty, but they aren't "food". I try to stick to "food" as much as possible. Of course, I have my moments of weakness...
*Fat is not the devil. There are good fats and they are bad fats. Fats that exist in nature are one thing--a little bit of those fats are part of a healthy diet. Fats that don't exist in nature = bad.
*Real butter. This is something I believe in very strongly. Real butter rules. Do not profane my kitchen by bringing in margarine or (*shudder*) vegetable spread. And if it's supposed to taste like butter but comes in a spray can, you probably shouldn't be eating it.
